Unofficial fan work
About
The Horus Heresy Atlas is an unofficial fan work: an interactive map of the galaxy and the annals of the civil war of the 30th millennium, compiled from the books and reference works, with sources for every entry.
What is inside
How the canon is handled
The compilation has one rule: research wins — verification wins. If checking against the sources diverges from the familiar fan version, the result of the check goes into the data, not the habit.
When sources contradict each other, the one closer to the primary source ranks higher:
- Forge World — the books of the «The Horus Heresy» (Black Books I–IX);
- novels Black Library — the “Horus Heresy”, “Siege of Terra” and “Primarchs” series;
- Lexicanum;
- Warhammer 40k Fandom Wiki.
Disputes are not hidden. If the sources give different dates or versions, the entry carries the mark “date disputed”, and the “Disputed in the canon” block gives the explanation and the sources of both sides. Fundamental discrepancies are analysed separately in the “Disputes” section.
Nothing is invented. Where the sources are silent, the atlas says so — “participants not reconciled”, “casualties not reconciled by the sources” — and does not fill the gap with a guess. The sources are given for every entry as they are, in a numbered list.
Sources of the compilation
- Forge World “The Horus Heresy” Black Books I–IX (Betrayal, Massacre, Extermination, Conquest, Tempest, Retribution, Inferno, Malevolence, Crusade)
- Black Library: the “Horus Heresy” series (54 novels) + “The Siege of Terra” + “Primarchs”
- Lexicanum (wh40k.lexicanum.com)
- Warhammer 40k Fandom Wiki (warhammer40k.fandom.com)
- Official Games Workshop / Warhammer Community materials
- The atlas’s own compilation — the compilers’ working digest (fact-checking and reconstruction from the corpora listed above); not a Games Workshop publication and not an independent source
