Blackshields

The Blackshields are scattered renegade Astartes and breakaway detachments who scraped their heraldry down to a black shield; neither loyalists nor traitors in the strict sense. At the Xana Incursion (009.M31) the Blackshields of Endryd Haar, with the Dark Angels, disrupted the handover of the Ordinatus engines to Horus. Some of the Titans of Legio Astorum even deserted to the Blackshield “Protectorate of Unsubdued Steel”. The spectrum runs from devoted outcasts to outright bandits.
