Plot (spoilers: moderate)
The true beginning of the Heresy in terms of theology: Monarchia, the Pilgrimage, Ingethel, the pact with the gods already beyond the Eye of Terror, Argel Tal. Cadia here is a threshold and a guide, not the place of the bargain. Horus falls in 004.M31; Lorgar four decades earlier (Monarchia 964.M30 → Calth 007.M31). Without this book Calth looks like revenge, not a liturgy.
Events in the book
- Razing of Monarchia Loyalist victory
At the Emperor’s command the Ultramarines razed Monarchia to the ground — the “Perfect City” on Khur, raised by the Word Bearers as a shrine to the worship of the Emperor.
