Questoris Familia — Knight Houses

Questoris Familia is the knightly estate of the Imperium: the fighting houses of pilots of Knight armour, sworn either directly to the Imperium/a Legion (Questor Imperialis) or to a forge world or a Titan Legion (Questor Mechanicus). In the Heresy the houses split; the traitor ones became Questor Traitoris (a retrospective 40k term). A collective faction in which the houses acted jointly.

A general institution: the Knight Houses (Questor Imperialis, sworn to the Imperium/a Legion, and Questor Mechanicus, vassals of forge worlds); in the Heresy they split — the traitor ones became Questor Traitoris.

Fate

The institution split along with the Imperium; the traitor houses went to the Eye of Terror, the loyal ones were absorbed into the structure of the Imperium.

Disputed in the canon

  • A generalised faction for Knight Houses acting jointly; in the atlas’s events it serves as a collective designation — alongside specific houses such as House Devine. Questoris Familia is the common name of the Knight households of both sides (Lexicanum: Imperial Knight, after FW Black Book III: Extermination); Questor Imperialis and Questor Mechanicus are the oaths of individual houses.
