Solar Auxilia

Stronghold: Terra · Segmentum Solar

Fig. 1 · Stronghold on the map

The Solar Auxilia is an elite branch of the Imperialis Auxilia from the Segmentum Solar, second only to the Astartes in effectiveness; modelled on the Void Hoplites of the Saturnyne Ordo and clad in void armour. In the Heresy overwhelmingly loyalist (the Saturnyne Rams, Jovian Grenadiers, Inwit Phalangites), with notable traitors — Horus’s Cthonian Headhunters.

Forces
An elite branch of the Imperialis Auxilia from the Segmentum Solar; ~10,000 cohorts in the Crusade (a cohort ≈ 120,000 personnel); void-hardened equipment. Cohorts 1–10 are assigned to the Saturnyne Rams.

More

The basic unit was the regiment (about 5,300 men), but at the height of the Crusade the Solar Cohort (about 120,000) grew up under the Marshal of the Solar, divided into sub-cohorts (about 1,200). Cohorts 1–10 are assigned to the Saturnyne Rams, whose equipment and tactics set the template for the whole Auxilia; in all there were up to ten thousand cohorts. The tactical cell is the “tercio” of three sections: the ordinary one — three times 20 troopers with lasrifles, the veteran “Veletaris” — with volkite chargers and flamers, the fire-support one — with “Rapier” batteries. Clad in void armour and relying on Dracosan armoured transports and artillery, these cohorts overwhelmingly held to Terra — a notable exception being Horus’s traitor Cthonian Headhunters.

Fate

Overwhelmingly loyalist, with notable exceptions (the Cthonian Headhunters were traitors); after the Heresy Guilliman split the Army and the Fleet into separate services.
