Plot (spoilers: many)
Why the Emperor does not leave the Palace throughout the Heresy: the Webway, the Custodians, the Sisters, Ra Endymion. This is not “a father abandoning his sons” — it is a man holding the door to hell beneath his own throne. Without this book the Golden Throne on the map is just furniture.
