Pyrrhic loyalist victory The Imperials overcome Nurth, but the Nurthenes activate the Black Cube and themselves turn the planet into a dead world.
The 670th Expeditionary Fleet brought the Alpha Legion and regiments of the Imperial Army, including Geno Five-Two Chiliad, to Nurth — a lost human colony on a desert world. The Nurthenes rejected Compliance and turned the warp-sorcery of their priests against the Imperials, dragging the campaign out for long years. On the brink of defeat they set off a xenos relic — the Black Cube — and within days stripped the atmosphere from the very rock, turning Nurth into a lifeless dead world. Here John Grammaticus and the Cabal first wove an intrigue around Alpharius and Omegon.
