Plot (spoilers: moderate)
How the news of the betrayal reaches Terra at all. Garro, Keeler, the Lectitio Divinitatus and the birth of Malcador’s “silent war”. Without this thread the Siege would have come as a surprise; on the map it is the only arrow from Isstvan that works for the loyalists.
Events in the book

Under the pretext of pacifying a revolt, Horus assembled four Legions at Isstvan III — the Sons of Horus, Emperor’s Children, World Eaters and Death Guard — and with Life-Eater virus bombs…
- Flight of the Eisenstein Loyalist victory
Death Guard captain Nathaniel Garro seized the frigate “Eisenstein” and with a handful of loyalists took her out of the Isstvan system.
- Battle of the Somnus Citadel Loyalist victory
The daemonic contagion of Nurgle that had made its way aboard the “Eisenstein” broke into the Somnus Citadel on Luna, where the loyal Death Guard and the Sisters of Silence gave battle.
