Loyalist victory Ferrus Manus rejects capitulation and annihilates the army of Gardinaal utterly.

At the close of the Great Crusade Ferrus Manus led the failed Compliance of the rebel stellar empire of Gardinaal in order to prove his right to the title of Warmaster. The Iron Hands, together with the Emperor’s Children, the Ultramarines and the demi-legio Atarus, shattered the worlds of Gardinaal; when the Lords offered unconditional surrender, the Gorgon rejected it and led the Legion in the final assault on the capital. The title, however, went to Horus after Ullanor.

Significance

The “audition for Warmaster” that Ferrus lost to Horus — and a harbinger of the intransigence of the X Legion.

Disputed in the canon

  • A pre-Heresy Compliance of the later part of the Great Crusade (FW Black Book II: Massacre); the exact Imperial year is not recorded. The composition of the forces according to the canon is Iron Hands + Emperor’s Children + Ultramarines + Legio Atarus (not the Thousand Sons).
