The Gates of Molech
The Emperor’s secret, House Devine and the bargain after which Horus becomes a door
On the cover: XVI Sons of Horus
Molech is not just another capital. It is the place where the Father once took power, and the son comes to take the same power in order to kill the Father.
Step 1 of 4 ·
A date with its source
009.M31 per the FW Black Book VI: Retribution timeline and the official Heresy timeline; “010” is only the “009–010.M31” range in Lexicanum’s battle list.
FW Black Book VI: Retribution, the official Heresy timeline, Lexicanum and Fandom give 009.M31; no publication giving 010.M31 has been found. The atlas keeps one date, otherwise the fleets’ time windows and the routes around the event break. The correct behaviour for a reader is not to “correct” the date but to read the canon note: the source of the year is named there.
Event: Battle of Molech · System: Molech
How to look in the atlas
- Open the card for Molech and scroll down to the date and the canon note — the source of the year is named there.
- The date-confidence tag on this event is “exact”; compare Tallarn, where it is “disputed”.
Canon note
- 009.M31 is the accepted value: the FW Black Book VI: Retribution timeline and the official Heresy timeline give it, as do Lexicanum and Fandom; no publication giving 010.M31 has been found.

Step 2 of 4 ·
Devine and feudal geography
A world with a Knight House does not surrender as a garrison. It surrenders as an oath.
Molech is a fortress world and a world of knights, the domain of House Devine and a mainstay of the Imperial Army. The house splits, and part of it opens the road to Horus — among the sides of the battle House Devine already stands with the traitors, beside Legio Mortis and the Dark Mechanicum. A Knight House on the map is a marker: look here for siege and treachery from within, not for manoeuvre warfare.
System: Molech
How to look in the atlas
- In the Molech card press the “Special forces” chip → House Devine: the faction dossier opens over the map.
- Compare Tallarn — a different type of fortress world, without a knightly oath at the foundation of its defence.

Step 3 of 4 ·
What Horus takes beyond the gates
The very power with which the Emperor once entered the warp and came out a god-in-man.
Passing through the warp gate of Molech, Horus receives the full blessing of the Ruinous Powers and after that becomes practically invincible — from the corridors of the Vengeful Spirit only a handful of Knights-Errant survive, led by Garviel Loken. The atlas does not illustrate the warp from inside: it records the consequence. After Molech Horus goes to Beta-Garmon and Sol not as a general of a coalition but as a being able to stand against the Father.
System: Molech
How to look in the atlas
- Horus’s dossier: the Fate line. Read it before and after this step — the card is the same, the weight is different.
- “Search” → “Loken”: his line begins here and breaks off on Terra at 14.605.
Canon note
- “Vengeful Spirit” (G. McNeill) and Lexicanum (Battle of Molech): Horus received the full blessing of the Ruinous Powers by passing through the gate, and only a handful of Knights-Errant, including Loken, escaped from the Vengeful Spirit.

Step 4 of 4 ·
Next comes the meat of the Titans
Molech gives Horus power. Beta-Garmon gives him the road, paid for with machine-gods.
The Beta-Garmon Cluster is called the gate to Terra. More than a thousand Titans clashed on irradiated Beta-Garmon II — the greatest battle of Titans in history; Sanguinius with the Sanguinary Guard destroyed from within the enemy Imperator-class Axis Mundi. The traitors’ breakthrough opened the road to Sol. The investigation of Molech closes when you understand that the gates were not the end of the road but the fuel for the finale.
Event: Battle of Beta-Garmon · Titandeath · System: Beta-Garmon Cluster
How to look in the atlas
- “Chronicle” at 13.2 — the Beta-Garmon card; the Titan Legions are read through the “Special forces” chips, they are not extras.
- Keep this frame in mind until the step “Titandeath at the Walls” in the Siege investigation: the same war in another theatre.
Disputed in the canon
- The Beta-Garmon campaign is dated 006–013.M31 (Lexicanum: first phase 006–011, second 012–013), the culmination of “Titandeath” ~013.M31.

What to remember
- The date of Molech is 009.M31 per FW Black Book VI; “010” is a list range, not a date.
- Knight House Devine is the key to reading a feudal war on the map.
- After Molech Horus is no mere commander: he is a bearer of the power of the Ruinous Powers.
