The Emperor of Mankind
The Emperor of Mankind is an immortal psyker, creator of the Imperium and genetic father of the primarchs. For the sake of the Webway project he took his seat upon the Golden Throne, and a warp breach (provoked by Magnus) chained him to Terra for the whole war. In the finale he teleported to the Vengeful Spirit and destroyed the soul of Horus, but was mortally wounded.

Fate
Mortally wounded, but not dead. Dorn placed him in the Golden Throne, where his mutilated body is kept alive, the Throne acting as a life-support machine and a psychic engine, while his mind has projected the Astronomican for ten thousand years.

Relations
- Horus Lupercal — The Emperor of Mankindbetrayal
The Favoured Son against the Father. Horus is the chosen Warmaster and, by many accounts, the favoured son. The fall at Davin makes the civil war personal: the Heresy ends only when the Father kills the son aboard the “Vengeful Spirit”.
- Sanguinius — The Emperor of Mankindoath
The Angel at the Throne. Sanguinius is the son whom some sources name as a possible heir in Horus’s place. He holds the Eternity Gate and dies, clearing the Father’s path to the traitor son: the oath is fulfilled at the cost of his Legion and his own blood.
- Malcador the Sigillite — The Emperor of Mankindoath
The Regent and the Emperor. Malcador rules the Imperium while the Emperor sits on the Throne and holds the webway. In the finale the Sigillite burns out holding the Golden Throne in the absence of the Master, and the Emperor names him Malcador the Hero.
- Magnus the Red — The Emperor of Mankindbetrayal
The Forbidden Son. Magnus defies Nikaea in order to warn the Father about Horus, and in doing so wrecks the webway. The Emperor sees not salvation but catastrophe. After that come the Burning of Prospero, the flight to Tzeentch and Magnus’s late arrival, now as an enemy, at the walls of Terra.
- Ollanius Pius / Persson — The Emperor of Mankindoath
The Perpetual at the Father’s Feet. In current canon Ollanius Persson is a Perpetual, not the “guardsman with a lasgun” of the old legends (that version has been retconned and survives, disputed, as a myth). Aboard the “Vengeful Spirit” he steps between the Emperor and Horus and dies.
- Rogal Dorn — The Emperor of Mankindoath
The Praetorian. Dorn is recalled from the crusade to turn the Palace into a fortress — and remains at this post to the end. He does not forgive himself for not reaching the “Vengeful Spirit” in time, and after the Heresy he seeks death in the Iron Cage and the wars that follow.
- Leman Russ — The Emperor of Mankindoath
The Emperor’s Executioner. Russ accepts the role of executing his brother as a duty, not as an honour. After Prospero he doubts whether he was deceived; “Wolfsbane” is a late attempt to kill Horus in person and thereby correct the executioner’s mistake. The Wolves will be too late for the Siege.
