Horus Lupercal

Horus Lupercal, primarch of the Sons of Horus and Warmaster of the Great Crusade, the Emperor’s favourite son who became the Arch-traitor. Wounded on Davin by the blade of the Anathame, he unleashed the Heresy with the Isstvan III Atrocity, gained the power of all four gods of Chaos on Molech and led the traitors to Terra. Relations

  • Horus Lupercal — The Emperor of Mankindbetrayal

The Favoured Son against the Father. Horus is the chosen Warmaster and, by many accounts, the favoured son. The fall at Davin makes the civil war personal: the Heresy ends only when the Father kills the son aboard the “Vengeful Spirit”.

Event: Death of Sanguinius · the Emperor against Horus · 014.M31 · Loyalist victory
  • Sanguinius — Horus Lupercalkilling

The Angel and the Warmaster. Sanguinius loved Horus and foresaw his own death at his hand. Aboard the “Vengeful Spirit” he steps out to the duel first, wounds Horus and dies — opening a window for the Emperor to strike.

Event: Death of Sanguinius · the Emperor against Horus · 014.M31 · Loyalist victory
  • Horus Lupercal — Erebusbetrayal

Architect of the Fall. Erebus steals the Anathame, stage-manages Horus’s wound at Davin and leads him into the serpent temple. Horus later despises him but can no longer write off this debt: by the canon of the novels, the Heresy without Erebus most likely would not have happened in this form.

    Event: Battle of Davin’s Moon · 004.M31 · Atrocity
  • Corvus Corax — Horus Lupercalenmity

The Shadow against the Warmaster. On Isstvan V Corax understands the ambush before the others do, but cannot save his Legion. Then come Deliverance Lost, the tainted reinforcements and the guerrilla war of the Shattered Legions. The canon gives no personal duel with Horus: only a debt of vengeance.

Event: Drop Site Massacre on Isstvan V · 006.M31 · Atrocity
  • Fulgrim — Horus Lupercalalliance

The Phoenix at the Warmaster’s Side. Fulgrim is one of the first primarchs whom Horus sways in person. The III Legion lends Isstvan brilliance and horror, but by the Siege the Emperor’s Children are hardly an army any more. The alliance rests on Fulgrim’s vanity and Horus’s calculation.

Event: Isstvan III Atrocity · 005.M31 · Pyrrhic traitor victory
  • Ezekyle Abaddon — Horus Lupercalmentorship

The First Captain and the Warmaster. Abaddon is Horus’s favourite tactical son, a Justaerin and the future Arch-Enemy. He does not fall into the warp the way a primarch does: after Horus’s death it is Abaddon who refuses to repeat the “weakness” of deification and leads the Sons away.

Event: Death of Sanguinius · the Emperor against Horus · 014.M31 · Loyalist victory
  • Garviel Loken — Horus Lupercalbetrayal

The Son Who Was Cast Down. Loken is brought into the Mournival as the conscience of the Legion. Horus personally consigns him to Isstvan III. The surviving Loken becomes a Knight-Errant and in the finale meets his fallen father again — before Erebus kills him after the Emperor’s duel.

Event: Isstvan III Atrocity · 005.M31 · Pyrrhic traitor victory
  • Horus Lupercal — Lorgar Aurelianmentorship

The Instrument and the Priest. Lorgar believes he is making Horus a god; Horus uses the faith of the Word Bearers as the infrastructure of treason (the lodges, Davin, Calth). Before the Siege Horus banishes Lorgar for playing his own game — the priest proves too dangerous even for the Warmaster.

    Event: Shadow Crusade · 007.M31 · Inconclusive
  • Jaghatai Khan — Horus Lupercalrivalry

The Choice of Chogoris. Horus considers the Khan a natural ally of freedom against the “tyrant Father”. The Alpha Legion pins the White Scars down at Chondax so that the decision comes late. The Khan chooses Terra not out of love for the Imperial Truth but out of hatred for the slavery of the warp.

Event: Chondax Campaign Begins · 000.M31 · Inconclusive
