Pyrrhic loyalist victory Corax and the Raven Guard rescue the hounded Wolves on the brink of destruction.

Having wounded Horus with the Spear of Russ at Trisolian, the Space Wolves slipped away from his escort — and the Warmaster detached Abaddon to finish them. The scattered Wolves were hounded to the Yarant system, where the Sons of Horus, the Alpha Legion and the Thousand Sons pinned the VI Legion almost to annihilation. Rescue came from Corax: the Raven Guard tore the Wolves out of the trap.

Significance

The groundwork of Russ’s endgame in the Heresy; the Wolves’ Legion is saved.

Canon note

  • There are two Battles of Yarant in the canon, and they must not be confused: the early one (c. 006–007.M31) was an Alpha Legion ambush after which Russ fell back to the Alaxxes Nebula; this one is the “Wolf Cull” of 012.M31, a direct consequence of Trisolian. In the atlas it is the second.
