Leman Russ

Leman Russ, the “Wolf King”, primarch of the Space Wolves, is a loyalist and the “executioner of the Emperor”. He burned Prospero, deceived by Horus, then barely survived the Alpha Legion’s ambush in the Alaxxes Nebula. He failed to reach the key battles of the Siege of Terra: he led his Legion away to hunt Horus far afield.

The Executioner and the Sorcerer. Nikaea set them against each other ideologically; Horus’s decree substituted “destroy” for “bring Magnus in”. On Prospero Russ breaks Magnus in single combat, and the Thousand Sons perish as a civilisation, not as an army.

The Emperor’s Executioner. Russ accepts the role of executing his brother as a duty, not as an honour. After Prospero he doubts whether he was deceived; “Wolfsbane” is a late attempt to kill Horus in person and thereby correct the executioner’s mistake. The Wolves will be too late for the Siege.
