Atrocity The Emperor’s Children exterminate the laer; Fulgrim takes the daemonic Laer Blade.

The 28th Expeditionary Fleet of the Emperor’s Children under Fulgrim exterminated the serpentine xenos laer on their oceanic world of Laeran, unaware that they were worshippers of Slaanesh. In the great temple of the Prince of Pleasure Fulgrim took the silver Laer Blade — a daemonic sword within which a Greater Daemon of Slaanesh lay hidden. Many Astartes and remembrancers who had visited the temple were defiled without noticing.

Significance

The root of the Emperor’s Children’s corruption: the blade will gradually take possession of Fulgrim’s soul and push the Legion towards Slaanesh.

Disputed in the canon

  • The date 001.M31 comes directly from the Lexicanum infobox “Cleansing of Laeran”. The Laeran campaign was already waged under the newly appointed Warmaster Horus, that is, after Ullanor; the temple blade taken by Fulgrim on Laeran is the origin of the III Legion’s fall. The date is disputed: 000.M31 from proximity to Ullanor in “Fulgrim” against 001.M31 from Lexicanum; the order “after Ullanor” is not contested.
