Battle of Sixty-Three Nineteen

Place: Sixty-Three Nineteen · Great Crusade frontier

Fig. 1 · Place on the map

Loyalist victory The Luna Wolves take the capital and kill the false emperor; Loken is raised to the Mournival.

Already proclaimed Warmaster, Horus brought the 63rd Expeditionary Fleet to a world whose inhabitants styled their ruler “Emperor of Mankind”. When Captain Hastur Sejanus questioned his right, the guardians known as the “Invisibles” slaughtered the embassy; in response the Luna Wolves crushed the enemy fleet and the defences of the capital. Horus teleported in person into the throne room and struck down the false emperor — the day Horus slew the Emperor. After the battle Garviel Loken was raised to the Mournival in place of the fallen Sejanus, and the world of 63-19 was brought to Compliance.

Significance

The opening of the entire saga: the birth of Loken’s Mournival and Horus’s first blow — a sinister prefiguration of the coming regicide.

Disputed in the canon

  • The opening scene of the novel “Horus Rising”. The Lexicanum infobox dates the battle to 001.M31; here it is placed at the turn of 000.M31, directly after the Triumph on Ullanor (the 203rd year of the Crusade, Horus already Warmaster) — long before the Council of Nikaea by the internal chronology of the map. Its inhabitants called the world 63-19 “Terra”; the segmentum is not established.
