Pyrrhic loyalist victory The Raven Guard are restored, but the Alpha Legion’s sabotage has poisoned the gene-seed.
After the slaughter on Isstvan V the surviving Raven Guard returned to Deliverance, and the Emperor presented Corax with primarch gene-technology for the rapid restoration of the Legion. Alpha Legion operatives, who had infiltrated in the guise of fallen brothers, waited out the breakthrough and added daemonic taint to the genetic material, giving rise to the misshapen “Raptors”. Corax uncovered the plot, but was forced to put the mutants to death, and later destroyed the tainted samples himself.
