Primarch · Legion XVIII · loyalist
Vulkan
Vulkan, primarch of the Salamanders from volcanic Nocturne and a master armourer, is a loyalist and a secret Perpetual, like the Emperor himself. On Isstvan V his Legion was almost destroyed, and he himself was taken prisoner by Curze, who killed him again and again — so Vulkan learned of his immortality. He survived the Heresy and was reunited with the survivors in Imperium Secundus.

Relations
- Vulkan — Konrad Curze / the Night Lordenmity
The Immortal and the Tormentor. After Isstvan Curze tortures Vulkan at length, testing his regeneration as a thesis on the futility of hope. Vulkan does not break in the direction the Night Haunter wants: it is a philosophical dispute conducted by means of torture.
- Vulkan — Ferrus Manusbrothers
The Smiths of the Loyalists. Both are craftsmen and Fulgrim’s “iron” brothers. The death of Ferrus on Isstvan wounds Vulkan differently from Corax: it is the loss of the only one who spoke to him in the language of the forge, not of the Legion. From then on Vulkan fights as ash that never goes out.
