Lorgar’s Pilgrimage

Place: Eye of Terror · Segmentum Obscurus

Fig. 1 · Place on the map

Traitor victory Lorgar finds the “Primordial Truth”; the XVII Legion gives itself to the Ruinous Powers.

Humiliated on Khur, Lorgar did not leave his chambers aboard the “Fidelitas Lex” for a month, admitting only Kor Phaeron and Erebus — and they, secret servants of Chaos for more than a decade by then, suggested a way out: a pilgrimage to the place where the gods meet mortals. The fleet of the XVII Legion set off for the Eye of Terror, to newly discovered Cadia, where the guide Ingethel led the primarch through the warp to the “Primordial Truth”. Lorgar returned with the faith for whose sake he would betray the Emperor: he had sought the gods — and found them.

Significance

A forty-year causal gap between the humiliation of Monarchia and the Heresy: here the Word Bearers become worshippers of Chaos, long before Isstvan.

Disputed in the canon

  • The canon gives no exact date. Lexicanum and Fandom tie the Pilgrimage to forty-three years before Isstvan V — the same reckoning by which the atlas dates the Razing of Monarchia (964.M30) — and place it directly after Lorgar’s month of seclusion aboard the “Fidelitas Lex”. Hence the date is disputed, and the event stands immediately after Monarchia. The node is the Eye of Terror (Cadia and the Crone World of Shanriatha), not Colchis: the pilgrimage went outward, not home.
