Erebus

Erebus — First Chaplain and Dark Apostle of the Word Bearers, the chief schemer of the Heresy. He corrupted Lorgar, Horus and Typhon to Chaos, stole the blade of the Anathame and engineered the wounding of Horus on the moon of Davin that led to his fall. It was he who planned the Isstvan III Atrocity and killed Argel Tal on Nuceria.

Architect of the Fall. Erebus steals the Anathame, stage-manages Horus’s wound at Davin and leads him into the serpent temple. Horus later despises him but can no longer write off this debt: by the canon of the novels, the Heresy without Erebus most likely would not have happened in this form.
