The Siege as five wars

Sol, the walls, the Titans, the Webway, the deck. “The battle for the Palace” is a harmful metonym: five different wars, each with its own fronts, tempo and winners, run at the same time.

Events of the theme

  1. 013.M31 The Solar War Traitor victory

The traitor fleet fought its way through the outer defences of Sol — a system of five concentric Spheres of Dorn.

  2. 014.M31 The Siege of Terra Pyrrhic loyalist victory

The culmination of the Heresy: Horus’s armada descended on the Solar System and besieged the Emperor’s Palace on Terra.

  3. 014.M31 Fall of the Lion’s Gate Spaceport Traitor victory

The Lion’s Gate Spaceport — the most powerfully defended — fell to the traitors, and the greater part of the sprawling Magnifican came into their hands.

  4. 014.M31 Mortis · the Titandeath of Terra Traitor victory

Horus threw Legio Mortis, the Sons of Horus and the Dark Mechanicum at the Mercury-Exultant kill-zone before the Exultant Wall. ~50 engines of Legio Ignatum with Imperator-class Titans held, but…

  5. 014.M31 Magnus Defeated in the Webway Loyalist victory

In the Webway tunnels beneath the Palace Vulkan met Magnus the Red and overcame him.

  6. 014.M31 Death of Sanguinius · the Emperor against Horus Loyalist victory

Horus lowered the shields of the “Vengeful Spirit”, luring the Emperor. Sanguinius reached him first — and was killed, refusing to betray the Emperor (thus the Black Rage was born).

How to look in the atlas
  • “Siege” mode → “Siege phases”: the five layers are separated as standard; this is the only mode in which they do not merge.
  • Time slider 14.02 (Pluto) → 14.393 (the Eternity Wall spaceport) → 14.5 (Mortis) → 14.587 (the Webway) → 14.593 (the deck).
  • Rail → “Legions” → IV and VII: two schools of siegecraft on a single wall.
  • The dossiers of Dorn and Perturabo side by side — the count is kept not in heroes but in timetables.
