Place: Terra · Segmentum Solar

Fig. 1 · Place on the map

Pyrrhic loyalist victory Terra holds, but at the cost of Sanguinius’s death and the Emperor’s maiming.

The culmination of the Heresy: Horus’s armada descended on the Solar System and besieged the Emperor’s Palace on Terra. A months-long slaughter scorched the spaceports of the Lion’s Gate and the Eternity Wall, breached the outer walls and brought daemons and plague into the world. In the finale the Emperor teleported aboard the “Vengeful Spirit”, destroyed Horus’s soul, but was mortally wounded, having lost his beloved son Sanguinius.
