Plot (spoilers: moderate)
The Lion between Thramas, Secundus and the shadow of Luther. It links the I Legion’s eastern war with the politics of Macragge and with the domestic schism that will blow up in 015.M31. Without it the Lion’s turn towards Caliban instead of Terra seems a whim.
