Place: Calth · Segmentum Ultima

Fig. 1 · Place on the map

Atrocity The sorcery of the Word Bearers cleaves the galaxy in half with a warp storm.

Erebus’s ritual on the surface of Calth and the slaughter of Ultramar gave birth to the Ruinstorm — a gigantic warp storm centred on Ultramar, cleaving the galaxy in two. It eclipsed the light of the Astronomican over the east, blinding the loyalists’ Navigators and paralysing their warp travel while the traitors moved freely.

Significance

The strategic axis of the middle Heresy: it isolates the east and makes the Imperium Secundus possible.

Disputed in the canon

  • The sources differ on whether the “creator” is Lorgar (the architect) or Erebus (who performed the ritual at Calth). Both roles are reconciled.
