Magnus the Red

Magnus the Red, “the Crimson King”, primarch of the Thousand Sons and the mightiest psyker among the primarchs, is a traitor in spite of himself. His failed psychic warning breached the Palace’s shields and ruined the Webway project, giving the pretext to burn Prospero. At the Siege he hurled a psychic blow at the Webway beneath the Palace. He survived the Heresy and became a daemon prince of Tzeentch.

Relations

  • Leman Russ — Magnus the Redduel

The Executioner and the Sorcerer. Nikaea set them against each other ideologically; Horus’s decree substituted “destroy” for “bring Magnus in”. On Prospero Russ breaks Magnus in single combat, and the Thousand Sons perish as a civilisation, not as an army.

  • Constantin Valdor — Magnus the Redrivalry

The Guardian of the Throne and the Breach. Valdor accompanies the censure of Prospero and then the whole War Within the Webway, clearing up what Magnus broke through in the cellars of the Palace. This is not a fraternal feud but a conflict between two instruments of the Emperor: the perfect guardian and the perfect sorcerer.

  • Magnus the Red — The Emperor of Mankindbetrayal

The Forbidden Son. Magnus defies Nikaea in order to warn the Father about Horus, and in doing so wrecks the webway. The Emperor sees not salvation but catastrophe. After that come the Burning of Prospero, the flight to Tzeentch and Magnus’s late arrival, now as an enemy, at the walls of Terra.
