White Scars

Primarch: Jaghatai Khan

Homeworld: Chogoris / Mundus Planus · Segmentum Ultima

The V Legion — swift steppe riders from Chogoris (Mundus Planus), underestimated as mere raiders. Their primarch Jaghatai Khan, “the Warhawk”, kept his allegiance unclear until the last days of the Heresy, seeking the truth even amid the ashes of Prospero. Caught in a trap on Chondax, he then broke through by the “Path of Heaven” across the warp and through the webway gates to Terra. At the Siege his mounted hosts wore down the traitors with lightning raids, and the Khan himself struck down Mortarion and banished him into the warp.

Side in the Heresy: loyalists Remained loyal, but their choice was long unknown: the Khan wavered between friendship with Horus and duty. Caught in the Alpha Legion’s trap on Chondax (~005–006.M31), he finally declared for the Emperor.

Fate

Survived the Heresy, though bloodied: the Khan broke through by the “Path of Heaven” to Terra and defended it as one of the three loyalist Legions present at the Siege in full strength. The Khan himself banished Mortarion into the warp. Vanished in the Maelstrom in 084.M31.

Speciality

Ultra-mobile lightning warfare: mounted and biker hosts, raids and flanking sweeps. Stormseers — weather-working psykers who lead the brotherhoods.

Tactics

Strikes at weak points, constant withdrawal and wheeling round for a fresh attack, wearing down a heavy enemy by manoeuvre; the elite Keshig as a reserve for exploiting a breakthrough. Organisation — “brotherhoods” (minghans) under the hordes of the noyan-khans.

What the Legion is known for

The steppe riders of Chogoris, the “Path of Heaven” to Terra through the warp; the Khan’s banishment of Mortarion; the long uncertainty of their allegiance; the Stormseers.

Wargear
