Roboute Guilliman

Roboute Guilliman, “the Avenging Son”, primarch of the Ultramarines and lord of the five hundred worlds of Ultramar, is a loyalist. He held out through the treacherous Battle of Calth, founded Imperium Secundus beyond the Ruinstorm and proclaimed Sanguinius its regent. He did not reach the Siege of Terra, but, once the mortally wounded Emperor was interred on the Golden Throne, began the Scouring and wrote the Codex Astartes.

Fate

Survived the Heresy; began the Scouring and wrote the Codex Astartes. Later Fulgrim’s poisoned blade at Thessala (121.M31) froze him in stasis for ten thousand years.

    Ultramar against Colchis. It was the Ultramarines who, on the Emperor’s orders, wiped out Monarchia. Calth and the Shadow Crusade are Lorgar’s answer 43 years later: not mere revenge but the ritual destruction of a brother’s empire and the birth of the Ruinstorm.

  • Roboute Guilliman — Sanguiniusalliance

    The Regent of Secundus. Guilliman makes Sanguinius emperor of Imperium Secundus, keeping for himself the role of Lord Warden. It is a political gesture of love and calculation: the Angel is legitimate, Ultramar is governable. Both understand that the construct is a heresy if Terra lives.

  • Lion El’Jonson — Roboute Guillimanalliance

    The Triumvirate of the East. The Lion comes to Ultramar as Lord Protector of Secundus — and at once as a potential rival. The Trial of Konrad Curze and the disputes over power show that the alliance of three primarchs rests on the Ruinstorm, not on trust. When the road to Terra opens, Secundus is dissolved.

  • Kor Phaeron — Roboute Guillimanduel

    The Foster Father against the Avenging Son. Kor Phaeron is not a primarch, but on Calth’s orbital platform he fights Guilliman with a shard of the Anathame, trying to turn him to Chaos; the primarch answers by tearing out one of his two hearts. This should be read as the design of the XVII Legion: to kill Ultramar by beheading its mind, not by outarguing it in the field. The poisoned blade that will put Guilliman into stasis for ten thousand years is Fulgrim at Thessala in the Scouring, striking at exactly the same scar on the throat.
